Celebrex should not be administered with any dose of a non-aspirin NSAID due to increased risk of adverse reactions. The chronic use of Celebrex causes an increased risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Celebrex should be used with caution in patients with hypertension. Celebrex can cause fluid retention and edema. It can also cause serious gastrointestinal events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach, small intestine or large intestine. Celebrex should be avoided in late pregnancy as it causes premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. Patients should be informed of the warning signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity, which can occur during Celebrex treatment. The long-term administration of Celebrex can cause renal injury.
