Glucotrol XL can cause precipitate hypoglycemia when administered along with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other highly protein bound drugs. Glipizide SR can cause hyperglycemia with corticosteroids, thyroid products and diuretics. The patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction and adrenal insufficiency are more vulnerable to hypoglycemic attacks of Glucotrol XL. In elderly and malnourished people the dose of Glucotrol XL should be selected carefully as they are more prone to hypoglycemia.
