Mirtazapine when co-administered with monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) like furazolidone, isocarboxazid, procarbazine, tranylcypromamine can cause serious fatal reactions like hyperthermia, rigidity, myoclonus and autonomic instability. Mirtazapine is to be given only 2 weeks after discontinuing monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI). It is not advisable to consume the drug during pregnancy. If it is an absolute must to take Remeron during pregnancy, it should be administered under the supervision of a medical practitioner. Avoid use of drugs that cause drowsiness and alcohol when you are taking Mirtazapine. The dose of Mirtazapine needs to be adjusted in elderly and patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
