How does Diclofenac Sodium works?

Diclofenac  inhibits prostaglandin synthesis and has short antiplatelet action. It reduces neutrophil chemotaxis and superoxide production at the inflammatory site.

The concomitant administration of of this and lithium can cause lithium toxicity The concomitant administration of this medicine and warfarin type anticoagulants can cause with fatal gastrointestinal bleeding. The concomitant administration of cyclosporine and this drug may increase cyclosporine’s nephrotoxicity. It can reduce the diuretic and antihypertensive effects of furosemide and thiazide diuretics. The use of this medicine with other NSAIDs can cause increased gastrointestinal toxicity. The use of this drug causes an increased risk of cardiovascular thrombotic events, myocardial infarction, and stroke. It can cause serious gastrointestinal events including bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the stomach, small intestine or large intestine. Patients should be informed of signs and symptoms of hepatotoxicity and anaphylactoid reaction, which can occur during the treatment. This medicine can cause anemia due to fluid retention and GI blood loss. It should be avoided in late pregnancy as it can cause the premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. It is not recommended for nursing mothers. This should not be used as an alternative to corticosteroids or to treat corticosteroid insufficiency. Diclofenac Sodium can cause serious skin side effects such as exfoliative dermatitis.
